Silicon Valley, California

Born and raised in San Jose, California, before it was Silicon Valley. Looking back, I feel very blessed to have seen and lived in that different era of the San Francisco Bay Area. Remembering the farmlands and orchards, our mom used to take us out to the fields and the farmers would let local kids glean whatever produce we could find after harvest. I can still smell the rotten tomatoes baking in the sun.

Higher Education

I never went to college. I recall hearing others having their own conversations about college but for some reason, I didn’t feel qualified. I knew it…

I am trying to stay positive but it is hard to focus on anything good through all the muck.

Others have much more serious struggles. Keeping my reality in perspective, compared to others around the world, I keep shoving my feelings down, trying to diminish the pain. Now I fear I’ve reached max capacity of containing the chaos. I’ve snapped.

Trying to see this as a breakthrough, life has a way of forcing us to make the necessary changes, having ignored the gentle nudges. I am being catapulted full speed ahead into uncertainty and I am genuinely scared.

The Breakup

Last night I broke up with my boyfriend of three years, again. It’s been done before but this time is an…

September 11th is My Birthday and Here’s What I Want

Silly photo of me blowing a paper party favor noise maker, those things that unwind from your mouth, out to a candle in a birthday cupcake, all set atop a lavishly decorated birhtday table with city lights in the background.

Service is my happy place. I enjoy occasionally volunteering in soup kitchens, buying fireworks from the stand to help support the local kids, donating old cell phones to domestic abuse shelters. It feels good to do something, play a small role to help make a difference in my Las Vegas community.

When I was a taxi driver, for years I’d occasionally deliver bags of groceries with my taxi while still on the clock. It was the best time for me to spot them around town while I was zipping about with my passengers since I rarely go to town on…

When your human brain and your computer brain are boggy, set yourself free.

Screengrab of my google drive and uploading files. Six hours remaining.
uploading files to google drive | me

Hey, Google, really hoping you can help me out. I know you are more than just a google search engine. Can you google for me a way to set me free? Free from the maddening vicious cycle of my computer repeatedly freezing when I’m on a hot project. I’ve tried google for free storage, but now I’ve maxed my google drive storage capacity.

Full disclosure, this post contains two affiliate links. One for a book on how to get started publishing low-content books, such as blank notebooks and journals. …

Why oh Why Don’t You Proofread Your Outrage?

A blond woman with a bad attitude stands before a gallery of amateur writers. She’s telling them she demands answers. Kermit the frog is in a chair just sipping some hot tea, because hey, that’s none of his business.

There’s a rant then there’s verbal abuse. But hey, what do I know?

Why allow such anger to consume you? I understand frustration of sometimes being exposed to embarrassingly poorly written posts. But to spew such vitriol at the writers you’re supposedly here to help? Yikes. It’s one thing to think that behind the scenes, but to craft the draft, read it, run it by another, agree to put it out there then hit the publish button on such ugliness. Wow.

I’m no professional editor, but recently I was brought aboard one of Medium’s Member’s pubs (not a direct Medium…

Then There Was Killjoy. Who Invited Mom Anyway?

Arrival at Sunset, McCarran Airport, Las Vegas | photo by author

Fresh off the plane, the family was tired but smiling, not grumpy. Count on Mom to dampen the mood and they only just arrived for their Vegas Vacation.

Feeling sentimental about my cabbie days. It’s time to revisit Las Vegas tourists. I’ll never regret leaving that job, but I do miss my people. One of my greatest joys has been meeting people from all over the world.

I used to work the airport scene a lot. There’s something about being a part of their arrival and helping set the mood for the trip. I always strived to give my fares…

I took some time to study six Medium Top Writers, six posts from their profiles and a bonus seventh, the only post revealing the author. Chose not to reveal the writers. Exactly who they are doesn’t matter for the purpose of this post.

*Gasp!* Blasphemedium!

The people behind the writings are the season, the spice and everything nice of all that is Medium. How can I go against the grain of the collective sands ashore the continent Writers-Galore? Because I care, but I don’t care. I appreciate their talent and efforts, doing what they do best. …

Get Back to Basics with the Good ol’ Standby, ebay

When I saw my first sale within a few minutes after starting my listings today on ebay I knew I had to share the news. Need fast-cash? — Sell your stuff!

Many years, about 20 years ago I played around with selling stuff on ebay but never took it very seriously. Recently, TikTok reignited my curiosity. People are earning serious income working their full-time Reseller businesses!

I have no intention of turning Reselling into a full-time entrepreneurial endeavor, but cleaning out my apartment and dumping money in my bank account, heck yeah!

I’m getting ready to move and I hate…

I can’t be the only one. Ever want to go see your Medium buddies?
Tell me you have your favorite people here on Medium. You know you secretly want to drive over to hang out with them, a bottle of wine (or two), eat all the junk food, drink all the wineses and laugh all night long. — Not creepy.

Ain’t that the Creep’s motto? — “Not in a creepy way”.

Someone create a Medium meetup on the reg. Does that exist? Like a weekly zoom meeting? Does anyone know? As much as I enjoy reading, writing and visiting with…
